On Thursday, September 17 at 17:30, the Miasteczko Wilanów branch of Wilanów Library, at Aleja Rzeczypospolitej 14, welcomes Barbara Supeł, author of the popular Jadzia Pętelka book series. This is the third and last meeting in the Literary September in Wilanów series, following visits by Jakub Małecki at the Main Library and Zofia Stanecka at the Radosna branch. Entry is free, and the meeting is funded from the 2026 participatory budget.

Siblings every parent of a toddler will recognize

The Jadzia Pętelka series, published by Zielona Sowa with illustrations by Agata Łuksza, now runs to more than twenty titles and follows young readers, aged one to three, through the most ordinary moments of the day. The siblings Staś and Jadzia go to sleep, go for a walk, bake gingerbread, get angry, learn to use the potty and start preschool for the first time. Short texts, simple sentences and inventive illustrations aim to help children name emotions they cannot yet put into words themselves.

Supeł lives in the countryside in Podlasie, and she looks for inspiration for her books in her own home. The names of the main characters, Staś and Jagna, are the names of her own children, and many scenes in the books come straight from everyday situations in her family.

During the meeting in Wilanów, the youngest readers will be able to talk with the author about the adventures of Jadzia and Staś, ask where the ideas for new titles come from, and join in shared games inspired by the world of the Pętelka family. The organizers describe it as an afternoon of play rather than a traditional talk, matched to the age of the youngest participants and their parents or grandparents.

The Miasteczko Wilanów branch is on the first floor of the Alto Wilanów shopping centre and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 to 19:00, and Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 16:00. The branch can be reached by phone at +48 22 642 24 26 or by email at mw@bibliotekawilanowska.pl.

The whole September series shows how varied Wilanów Library's literary offer really is. After an evening of Jakub Małecki's prose for adults and an afternoon visit from Zofia Stanecka's Basia for preschool and school age children, the meeting with the author of Jadzia Pętelka is aimed at the youngest, barely reading, children and their caregivers.
