On Saturday, September 26, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 400 at ul. Oś Królewska 25 turns into the venue for a family dart tournament. The Rodzinny Piknik z Dartem (Family Dart Picnic) runs from 11:00 to 15:00, admission is free and no advance sign up is needed, residents can simply show up whenever suits them within those four hours.
Hubert Królak, chairman of the Wilanów District Council, is inviting residents to join. The program includes a Dart Academy for beginners, a free throw zone to practice accuracy without any pressure to score, contests with prizes, and a sports psychology zone, where children and adults will be able to talk about handling stress before a throw or before competing. The whole event is meant to feel like an open sports afternoon rather than closed competition for insiders, so residents can drop by for one activity and move on, or stay for the entire picnic.
Four age categories, one tournament
At the heart of the event is a main tournament split into four age categories: children aged 10 to 13, teenagers aged 14 to 17, adults from 18 upward, and a separate parent and child duo category, where the pair's combined result counts, not just individual skill. It is this last format that sets the Wilanów picnic apart from typical dart tournaments, usually held in pubs or sports clubs with adult players in mind.
Darts as a sport requires neither strength nor prior training, so practically anyone can throw a first dart, regardless of age or physical fitness. For families from Miasteczko Wilanów and the area around Oś Królewska, this is a chance for a Saturday morning just a few steps from home, with no need to plan a trip further afield, and the free throw zone lets a child test the game before even thinking about entering the tournament.
The event address is the seat of Szkoła Podstawowa nr 400, the same school that opened this year on September 1 as the new elementary school for Miasteczko Wilanów. Admission to the picnic is free for all residents, and joining the dart tournament requires no prior registration, just show up on site on the day of the event. It is worth bringing something to drink and comfortable shoes, since four hours outdoors and in the sports hall can pass quickly once children, parents and grandparents are all queuing for their turn to throw.
