Free basketball training for teenagers is back in Wilanow. The program, funded through the city's participatory budget, started on May 4th and runs through September 30th, so as of August you can still sign up and join the ongoing season. Sessions are split into two age groups so younger and older players train at their own pace, and they take place at two different spots in the district.

Where and when to train

The first location is the Orlik court on ul. Worobczuka, where training runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The younger group, ages 11 to 14, trains from 5 pm to 6 pm, followed right after by the older group, ages 15 to 18, from 6 pm to 7 pm. The second location is Centrum Sportu Wilanow at ul. Gubinowska 28/30, where the same age split and hours apply on Mondays and Wednesdays. In practice this means teenagers interested in basketball have four training days a week to choose from in Wilanow, depending on which venue is closer to home or school.

Taking part is completely free, and the organizers note that signing up requires no paperwork beyond basic registration. You can register by phone, by email, or through an online form, with contact details available on the Centrum Sportu Wilanow website and the district office website. The fact that the training is described as returning suggests this is not the first edition of the program, but a continuation of an earlier participatory budget initiative that apparently drew enough interest to bring it back for another year.

For parents looking for a free, regular physical activity for teenagers over the summer and into the start of the school year, this is a concrete option with no sports club membership and no monthly fees. The season ends in late September, so anyone who wants to join still has a few weeks to start before autumn.
