On Thursday, September 10 at 18:30, the Main Library on ul. Kolegiacka 3 welcomes Jakub Małecki, one of the most frequently award nominated Polish prose writers of the last decade. The meeting takes place in reading room 52, part of the Literary Thursday series that has previously hosted guests such as Piotr Milewski, Michał Nogaś and Maciej Siembieda. Entry is free. From science fiction to mainstream literature
Małecki, born in 1982 in Koło, trained as an economist. He is a graduate of the Poznań University of Economics and also works as a translator of English language literature. He debuted in March 2007 with the short story "Dłonie", published in the magazine "Science Fiction, Fantasy i Horror". He later moved away from science fiction and now writes mainly literary fiction, set in provincial life, family secrets and everyday routine.
His most important books include "Dygot", "Rdza" and "Horyzont", which the monthly magazine "Książki" named Book of the Year 2019. His novel "Święto ognia" won him the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award. In 2024 he published "Korowód", followed a year later by "Obiekty głębokiego nieba", a book nominated for several literary prizes. His prose has been translated into German, Russian, Dutch, Finnish, Slovenian, Macedonian and Hebrew.
Meetings in the Literary Thursday series usually take the form of a conversation led by a librarian, with time for questions from the audience afterward.
