The dome visible from half the district isn't only inviting adults in for prayer this time, it's inviting the youngest residents in for a storytelling show. The Museum of John Paul II and Primate Wyszyński, known as Mt 5,14, has launched its "Lato w mieście" (Summer in the City) programme.
According to mt514.pl, until 31 July, every day at 11:00, the museum at ul. Prymasa Augusta Hlonda 1 is hosting kamishibai theatre shows, the Japanese storytelling tradition performed with picture cards slid through a wooden frame. From 4 to 7 August, also at 11:00, the programme moves on to the "Biblijne zwierzęta" (Biblical Animals) workshops. Children learn about animals present in art and biblical texts, make 3D paper animals and learn to draw horses and donkeys. Admission costs one zloty per child, 10 zloty per group guardian, and bookings are taken by phone on +48 883 343 047 or by email at edukacja@mt514.pl.
An alternative to another day at the pool
For a parent who has already run through the list of nearby playgrounds and pools, museum workshops for one zloty are one of the cheaper options for a summer morning in Wilanów, and they come with air conditioning, which by midsummer is an argument on its own. A group doesn't need to be large or booked for a whole week, just call ahead for a specific day.
It's also a chance for a child to step inside a building the family drives past every day on the way to preschool or the shops, and to see that it holds more than just a dome visible from a distance.
