On a Saturday afternoon in front of the Wilanów District Office at 2 Klimczaka Street, you don't need to go looking for something to entertain the kids, it comes to the lawn on its own. The screen, deckchairs and speakers have been there since June, and instead of planning an outing, parents just bring a blanket.
According to wilanow.um.warszawa.pl, the "Saturday films for kids" run from 6 June to 5 September, always at 15:00, always in the same spot. Admission is free, the event is funded from the district's participatory budget. In July the screen showed, in order, Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, Wonka, The Bad Guys and Tom and Jerry. August opens with Clifford the Big Red Dog on 1 August, then Instant Family (Rodzinka rządzi) on 8 August, Croods 2: A New Age on 15 August, Trolls World Tour on 22 August, and the season closes with Spirit Untamed (Mustang z Dzikiej Doliny) on 29 August.
Same grass, different time of day
This is the sibling event to the evening Deckchair Cinema we've already written about, same lawn, same screen, but a completely different rhythm of the day. In the evening, adults show up on Klimczaka after work; in the afternoon, the same space turns into something closer to a picnic than a screening, kids running between blankets before the opening credits even finish.
No booking, no ticket, just a blanket and the fact that it's Saturday.
The biggest value of this series isn't the films themselves, the lineup is ordinary, family animations you'd probably watch at home eventually anyway. It's that every Saturday already has a ready answer to "what do we do with the kids after lunch", with no trip to a shopping centre and no need to plan ahead. The season runs until 5 September.
