Every Saturday evening, deckchairs come out again in front of the Wilanów District Office, a screen goes up, and someone brings a blanket, because even in July it gets colder than you'd expect once the sun goes down. This has become a fixture of the week rather than a one off event: Wilanów Deckchair Cinema runs right through the summer.
According to wilanow.pl, screenings take place every Saturday at 21:00 at 2 Klimczaka Street, from 6 June to 5 September. Admission is free, funded from the district's participatory budget. Through July and August the screen shows, in order, One Life, Lee, The Life of Chuck and F1, followed by Warsaw 44 (Miasto 44), The Great March (Wielki Marsz), Complicated (Skomplikowani), A Wonderful Life (Cudowne życie) and, closing out August, Sentimental Value (Wartość sentymentalna).
There's also a separate version for younger children, at the same spot but at 15:00, so Wilanów parents get two chances in one Saturday: an afternoon one for the kids, an evening one for themselves. In July the children's screen showed Wonka and Tom and Jerry among others; the full August programme for kids is worth checking at the source link, since it does get updated.
Why it's more than a film poster
Open air cinema on its own isn't new, but a fixed, weekly format in one well known spot makes a difference. You don't have to keep track of when the next screening is, because the answer is always the same: Saturday, 21:00, Klimczaka 2. For someone who has just moved to Wilanów and is looking for an excuse to leave the flat and meet the neighbours, it's hard to find an easier start than a blanket on the grass and a shared film.

It's also a good example of what a participatory budget actually looks like in practice on a summer evening on Klimczaka, not just as a line in a spreadsheet. The last screening is scheduled for 5 September, so there are still plenty of deckchair evenings left.
