Since Thursday, July 17, a stretch of ulica Vogla between Przyczółkowa and Kostki Potockiego has been closed to traffic. It is the last stage of rebuilding the intersection of Przyczółkowa, Vogla and Branickiego, the biggest road investment the district has made this term, worth close to 28 million zlotys.
For residents of Zawady this is a serious change. Vogla is the backbone of this part of the district and the shortest route to the through road of Przyczółkowa, and the intersection itself links the main entrance to Zawady, the exit toward Konstancin-Jeziorna, and one of the ways out of Miasteczko Wilanów. At the junction with Branickiego, two lanes now lead toward the city centre and one toward Konstancin-Jeziorna, and you can no longer turn from Przyczółkowa into Vogla.
Detours and changed bus routes
Drivers heading from Zawady toward the city centre now need a longer route through Przyczółkowa, Wiertnicza, Augustówka, Zawodzie, Kobylańska, Spiralna, Tuzinowa and Syta. Two bus lines changed their routes too. Bus 163 now runs straight down Syta, then Metryczna and Bruzdowa to the Kępa Zawadowska stop. Line 164 detours through Syta, Tuzinowa, Spiralna, Kobylańska, Zawodzie, Augustówka, Wiertnicza, Przyczółkowa and Branickiego, then through Ursynów toward Centrum Onkologii.
The city says that once the work is done, Vogla will gain a third lane before the intersection, and pedestrians and cyclists will finally get the missing stretch of sidewalk and bike path. Przyczółkowa itself will change too: the approach from the north will have four lanes, the one from the south five, and a new pedestrian crossing and bike crossing will appear at the level of ulica Gieysztora.
Officials say all the work should wrap up in September, though some reports from the site suggest that deadline might be hard to keep. Until then, expect an extra ten or fifteen minutes getting from Zawady toward the centre, especially at rush hour, and check ZDM announcements if your usual route happens to run through the detour.
