A Dino supermarket has been open at ul. Syta 140 in Wilanów since July 21, the chain's second store in the capital after a location that opened in January. Free coffee and promotional flyers greeted the first customers, and the store itself offers free parking, a round the clock bottle and can recycling machine, and an InPost parcel locker. It is open Monday to Saturday from 6am to 10.30pm, and on trading Sundays from 8.30am to 8pm.
A year of dispute over a henhouse on Syta Street
Before the store opened its doors, it went through a year of disputes rarely seen over the opening of an ordinary discount grocer. Construction began in June 2025, and with it came a petition against the investment, signed by more than three thousand residents. They argued the building did not fit the character of the district, and some compared its shape outright to a henhouse. Genuine concerns also centred on the traffic that deliveries and customers would bring to the narrow Syta street.
Councillor Daniel Kość filed a formal complaint with the Main Office of Building Control (GUNB), arguing the investment violated the local zoning plan, since the plot only permits low impact services, and that in his assessment the store would not meet noise standards. The Mazovian voivode, however, found no grounds to revoke the building permit, and GUNB did not halt the investment. The dispute lasted longer than the construction itself, and despite it the store opened on schedule in July.
For residents of Zawady and the southern part of Miasteczko Wilanów, this means above all a shorter trip for everyday shopping, without having to drive to the shopping centres on Klimczaka or Sobieskiego. Whether the argument over aesthetics and car traffic fades as quickly as it started remains to be seen.
