Since mid August, St. Urszula Ledóchowska Street in Wilanów has been dug up along most of its length. This is the result of two combined projects: the rebuild of the Cardinal August Sapieha roundabout at its junction with Primate August Hlond Street, and the reconstruction of Jan Bogumił Flatta Street. Both works are run by the Wilanów district office under project number 10/WIR/2026.
The trouble is that this particular stretch of the district is a dense cluster of schools and kindergartens. St. Urszula Ledóchowska Street is home to both a kindergarten and Primary School No. 358, and there are more within a few hundred metres. The works started right as children went back to school after summer, making the daily school run harder for parents.
Access to Ledóchowska Street from the Sejmu Czteroletniego Street side is closed for the duration of the works. The district office says access to every educational facility in the area remains available, just via detours. For Primary School No. 358, access to its parking lot is now routed from Worobczuka Street. Pedestrian traffic has changed too. On the stretch of St. Urszula Ledóchowska Street between Branickiego Street and Prymasa Hlonda Street, pedestrians are directed to the pavement on the western side.
What is actually being built
This is not just fresh asphalt. It is the construction of a municipal road together with the rebuild of the necessary technical infrastructure, which likely means underground utilities too: sewage, lighting or connections. Work like that usually takes longer than simple resurfacing, since it requires digging up the full width of the roadway.
The Wilanów district office has not yet given a finish date for the works. Residents should expect the disruption to last at least through the end of the year, possibly longer, given the scope of work at two intersections at once and the approaching autumn weather, which typically slows road construction. Throughout the project, access to properties along the streets under construction is meant to stay open, according to the official notice.
For parents dropping children at the kindergarten or school on Ledóchowska Street, that is a sign to plan a few extra minutes for the morning run and to check the detour signs on site, since traffic arrangements may change as the works move through further stages.
